No installation is necessary, though if you are running a server you may want to put the client in your startup folder so that if you reboot it can update your IP address automatically. You also need to select the "Update automatically on startup" checkbox on the main screen. This will give you a 20 second delay to cancel the update if you want to.
Otherwise you can just run the program and click the updateNow button.
The client will try to get your local IP address. If you are connecting via PPP and not already connected the client will dial up your isp to get you an address. If this is successful it will connect with the DynDNS site and update your entry.
It remembers the last IP address that it updated for your machine and will not make multiple updates for the same address. This is important as DynDNS may cancel your account if you make multiple updates for the same IP.
You can also update another account manually via the manual Update button.
This is beta software! Please send me an email to sentman@wwa.com with "DynDNS Mac" in the subject and I will keep you updated about the final release. This beta will not expire, I can't imagine much more annoying that running a server that has gone offline beause this expired! So I didn't build that in, please check for the updates!
Standard legal stuff applies. This is free beta software. I am not aware of any problems with it that could cause data loss. You assume all responsibility for your use of this software, I make no promises about damage or server availability problems that may occur as a result of your use of this software.
